Zinkers of the Week,

Week of August 26, 2013

This week's zinker is from Gilpin County, specifically, the Rocky Mountain IOOF Cemetery.

The marker is for two members of the Valentine family, but, I'm showing the side remembering Phebe Valentine, who died Dec. 2, 1884. It is simply marked with the words "Mother's Grave."

Week of August 19, 2013

I have been to the Arvada Cemetery many times (my grandparents are buried there), and had not remembered every seeing a single zink marker on the grounds. This Saturday, I went for a visit, with the idea of making sure.

I believe this is the only one there, and it is an unusual one. It's in the form of a tablet stone, and it looks like it has been broke at the bottom, probably due to normal weathering, and was reset in concrete.

The marker is for a young man, William Freddie Emerson, who died at the age of 18 years in July of 1891.
